Summary

Quite different from a day hike, a long-distance or itinerant hike transforms a sporting effort into a real inner adventure, or a group adventure if you choose to share it with a group.

Long-distance trekking, also known as trekking, trekking or “thru-hiking”, requires preparation if you are to cover different summits or several stages. Depending on your degree of autonomy, you will need to analyse hiking maps, the topology of the area and the weather conditions. For those who would like to be guided on their journey, a qualified guide will be able to put together a tailor-made itinerary to meet your expectations.

Philosophy of walking, the inner journey

What are we looking for on a long-distance hike? Philosophy has always sought to understand the introspective work involved in walking. Whether it’s the relationship with time and effort, or the pleasure derived from contemplating a landscape… In many ways, walking opens up new perspectives. Nietzche wrote that “only the thoughts you have while walking are worth anything”: an invitation to put on your shoes and take new paths.

What footwear should you choose for a long-distance hike or trek?

The Galibier Super Rando mid is the ideal hiking boot! Its top-of-the-range design features a single piece of full-grain leather combined with a Sympatex inner membrane to guarantee comfort and waterproofing, and a Vibram sole to guarantee faultless cushioning over the miles. Another distinctive feature is the Norwegian stitching, which has been part of Galibier’s unique know-how for over 100 years, guaranteeing the sturdiness of Super Rando shoes and contributing to their water resistance.

At a time when most outdoor brands are seeking to optimise the production costs of their footwear, using only glue to fix the sole, favouring synthetic materials or cutting leather into several parts to limit its use, Galibier is taking a contrarian approach. The technical choices are made with comfort, technicality and durability in mind.
